Perhaps the best-known feature of the township is Allegheny County’s South Park, which stretches over 2,000 acres and whose numerous amenities include an ice rink, a roller hockey rink, playgrounds, walking, biking, and horseback riding trails, a dog park, tennis and basketball courts, ball fields, a wave-action pool, picnic areas, a championship golf course, and even summer concerts. South Park is also home to the Montour Trail, a rail trail that will be 47 miles once completed and currently stretches throughout town in separate sections totaling 40 miles.
Community Services
South Park provides many services and amenities to its residents, including a public library and emergency medical services (with Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair as part of the Tri-Community South EMS). The township also hosts numerous events throughout the year, such as an Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch, an Environmental Day, Community Day, a Halloween Party, a Christmas Party, and a Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Recreation department provides additional services, such as children’s camps, sports, and educational activities.

Education in South Park
South Park public school students are served by South Park School District, a highly-rated district especially known for its outstanding athletics, especially in soccer. The district consists of South Park Elementary, South Park Middle, and South Park Senior High. Outstanding academics, teachers, facilities, and extracurricular activities all help to make this district stand out as one of the top districts in the South Hills.

Living in South Park: Neighborhoods of South Park
South Park is home to six distinct neighborhoods:
Curry. Located on the northern end of the township, Curry is a mix of residential homes and a small commercial area. The old Broughton Elementary School is located here.
Broughton. Sharing its borders with Curry and further extending down Brownsville Road, this neighborhood is mostly residential with a few businesses, gas stations, and eateries.
South Park Heights. Located in the center of the township, South Park Heights consists mainly of residential homes. South Park High School and South Park Elementary Center are also located here.
Snowden. Located in the southeastern corner of the township, this rural area consists of a few homes and farms. Originally, the neighborhood was a small mining community, but it has since been absorbed into South Park.
Piney Fork. This south-central part of South Park is a large residential area with a few small stores and restaurants.
Library. Previously known as Loafer's Hollow, this large neighborhood of South Park is a mix of residential, commerce, and industrial areas.
South Park. This is the actual county park and it’s considered the sixth neighborhood of this community.
